The Veterans Assistance Coalition (VAC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax exempt, public charity, organization.
The local VA with their “HUD Vash” program are assisting the Veterans with housing. The VAC has partnered with them to provide the housing needs to make an empty apartment into a home.
Since the VAC’s conception in September, 2012, 531+ Veterans have been provided assistance totaling nearly $1,000,000.00 worth of household items and “gently used furniture”. The volunteers in the group use their own mode of transportation. The average age of our volunteers, is 70 years old, and are also Veterans. We have found that there is a much bigger need then we had ever anticipated.

Straight Up SolGier Foundation‘s purpose is to raise funds for the counseling and assistance for local children and adults who have been sexually abused. Our focus is to provide funding when a child or adult cannot afford or has no adequate insurance to get the much needed counseling. We also hope to educate the community on how to help these children & adults and “why” they must care!
Matt “Magou” McGuirk is our original Straight Up SolGier. At age 10 Matt testified against his teacher who had been sexually abusing him. His predator got 155 years in prison and Matt received a life sentence of suffering. He was proud he put his predator in prison but didn’t want to talk about it with any counselors after the trial was over. He kept his demons inside and turned to drugs to try and erase his feelings. He died of an accidental drug overdose in 2011.

Eligibility: Only 501(c)3 Charities and nonprofit organizations are eligible to receive funds distributed to the top three levels for each ride. If your favorite organisation is not on the list of organizations to vote for, you can write them in under the “other” space. Please only do this if you know that they meet the eligibility requirements. If they do not, you can still nominate them for the “Little Engine that Could” cause and they will be considered for that portion of the proceeds. All organizations that finish first, second or third in the voting must provide proof of their status (IRS Form 990). In the event that an organization cannot provide the necessary proof, they will only receive the amount equal to the “Little Engine that Could” contribution. Any balance would be equally distributed between qualifying charities that are receiving funds. Read below for a detailed explanation of the distribution of funds. Once an organization receives funds, they must wait one year to be eligible again.
All money raised through this ride will be distributed in the following manner:
40% of the proceeds will be donated to the charity with the most votes.
30% of the proceeds will be donated to the charity with the second most votes.
20% of the proceeds will be donated to the charity with the third most votes.
10% of the proceeds will go to a charity (or cause) that may not get many votes but needs the help. This “Little Engine that Could” cause will be selected by the riders on the day of each event. This could be a small (relatively) unknown charity, a family in need in our community or even an individual who has fallen on hard times due to sickness or injury. “Little Engine that Could” recipient does not have to be an official charity or nonprofit organization, but will be screened before being considered as one of the organisations to be voted on by the riders. Organizations who are receiving funds in one of the top three categories will not be eligible in this category.
